What is a busker?
The word busker is a derivitive of the
English word 'bask' which is defined in Websters Dictionary as "to
perform for money as a singer or strolling entertainer in public places".
Buskers can be dancers, mimes, clowns, magicians, puppeteers, living statues,
sidewalk artists,
etc. Buskers are artists who depend on the public for their income. Busker
festivals are rather uncommon in the United States, although many are held
in Canada. Buskering is very common in Europe and other parts of the world.
As a matter of fact the city of Christchurch, New Zealand holds the largest
Busker Fest in the world. Buskers come from all over the world to perform.
The City of Paris holds auditions and officially licenses its buskers to
perform on the streets and subway stations. A busker is not to be confused
with panhandlers, as they do not approach people for money, but rather they
offer entertainment in exchange for money. If you are a Busker and would
